- This BBC is capable of installing Slink and a half with a 2.2.13 kernel
- completely from just this BBC.
-
- We have longed for the ability of having Debian available for a quick and
- easy install. The BBC now makes this possible. It is important you observe
- a few things in order to have a successful experience with the installer. We
- take it for so much for granted that we are capable of having the Debian base
- installed up and running on the net and start being able to apt-get install
- within 5 to 7 minutes of inserting the BBC.
-
- First at the boot prompt type debinst.
-
- We have had some time outs during making the file system. If you experience
- a system hang just reboot and go on to the next mke2fs. It seems to write
- the inode tables correctly even though it hangs occasionally at the end of
- making them. We have had it successfully make 50 GB raid partitions with out fail.
- You can always make2fs with the normal BBC boot. The worst case we've ever had
- was having to reboot three times.
-
- You should choose mounted when asked where you are installing from. Remember the
- BBC has already mounted all the files necessary for the installation.
-
- Next choose DEBIAN and then MANUAL. After that just choose enter, enter, etc and
- it will find everything.
-
- When adding modules understand that most everything you will need is already in
- the kernel and you only do so as an exercise.
-
- When ever you choose to access the DEBIAN files choose MOUNTED. The base system
- should go on flawlessly.
-
- Configure the system, set the time zone and move on to the next step.
-
- Make the kernel bootable from the hard drive and you should be able to reboot in
- to the newly installed DEBIAN system from the hard drive and apt-get install what
- you need as long as you have configured the network with a static IP.
-
- The system may report that it has only a 2.2.12 kernel but rest assured that it
- is in fact a 2.2.13 kernel.
-
- We will be adding a DHCP option into the next release of the BBC.
